Our Outdoor Space
Motor skills, physical activity and adventurous play are all a vital part of a child’s development. Thanks to our amazing outdoor space, we have a strong focus on these areas.
As well as tactile surfaces ideal for rolling, crawling, walking and running, a large part of our garden has been specially landscaped to develop gross motor skills in children.
This provides a rich environment in which to encourage our children to be natural risk takers and challenge themselves through adventurous play – all in a safe and secure setting.
Maria Montessori’s views on children and nature
“There must be provision for the child to have contact with nature; to understand and appreciate the order, the harmony and the beauty in nature.”
Dr. Montessori also felt that the outdoor environment should be an extension of the classroom and we make sure the outdoors is a large part of our day and we work hard to extend the indoors outdoor.
And, because we use the natural elements for different play contexts, it’s not just sunny days that we’re outside at The Montessori People Nursery School.
